Adaora Umeoji’s appointment as Zenith Bank GMD reflects remarkable advancement towards gender equality – Soludo
Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, congratulated Dr. Adaora Umeoji on her appointment as first female Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc.
A statement by Christian Aburime, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, said Soludo in his congratulatory message expressed happiness that her elevation to this esteemed position not only marks a significant milestone in her illustrious career but also stands as a confirmation of her dogged commitment as a top executive in the banking industry.
He noted that Dr. Umeoji’s appointment as the first female Group Managing Director of the bank reflects a remarkable advancement towards gender equality and inclusivity in the corporate world, reaffirming the limitless potential and capabilities of female professionals in driving organisational success and societal progress.
The statement reads in part: “Furthermore, with her impressive academic credentials, solid experience acquired over three decades in her industry, and her contributions to nation-building which earned her the conferment of the national honour of the Officer of the Order of the Niger by the Federal Government, the governor is confident Dr. Umeoji will make a resounding success of her new role.
“As an indigene of Anambra State, Governor Soludo noted that Dr Adaora Umeoji joins the esteemed ranks of amazons and trailblazing women like Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, OON, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc, also a first female CEO and a daughter of the state. The Governor further highlighted the significance of their appointments as a testament of women in leadership positions and urged other organizations to follow the Banks’ example

Dr Umeoji will assume her new role from June 1, 2024, replacing Ebenezer Onyeagwu whose five years tenure will end on May 31, 2024
