Accolades as Sanwo-Olu Commissions 11th Housing Estate with Commitment for More

Not a few pro-democracy advocates and human rights activists were full of praises for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State as he commissioned the 11th Housing Estate with a promise to provide more affordable Housing for the good people of the state before the end of this year.

Recall Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday commissioned 11th housing estate since his administration came on board over two years ago, and reiterated his administration’s commitment in building affordable houses across the state.

The estate, Bayview Estate, located at Ikate-Elegushi, Lekki consists of a 100-unit of 68 terraces of 4 bedrooms with a maid’s room each and 32 flats of 3 bedrooms with a maid’s room.

Setting the ball of the accolades rolling is Comrade Adeosun Adekunle of Egbe Omo Yoruba Ronu, who said the governor’s resolve to provide shelters for all the residents in the state would address the housing deficit in the state.

According to him, the governor’s steps towards providing affordable accommodation for all categories of the state’s residents would go a long way in reducing the hardship tenants are facing in the state, reminding that, after food, shelter is the other most important thing any resident of the state would crave for.

Speaking in the same vein, Comrade Omobanke Razak of the Labour & Workers Welfare Advocacy Centre was of the conviction that, while resolving the housing deficit in the state through the provision of more Housing Units, the governor is, directly and indirectly, boosting both personal and state economy.

And by so doing, the youthful Comrade added that Governor Sanwo-Olu is doing one of the things he knows how to do well, increase in the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), on one hand, and provision of jobs for the teeming youth of the state, expressing the delight that, the governor is practically moving the youth off the street.

Omolabake reminded that, when the idle hands are gainfully engaged, the devil would be put to shame and the rate of crime and criminal activities would reduce saying, the housing initiative of Sanwo-Olu is like proverbially using a stone to kill several birds.

Also commenting on the housing issue, Comrade Adekunle Akinde, Convener of the Youth Advocacy Initiative said that construction works at the various sites of housing schemes across the state must have been resulting in economic vibrancy for both skilled workers and artisans through the creation of direct and indirect employment, saying, its multiplier effects on individual and state economy can never be overemphasised.

Akinde fell in line with the State’s Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, who was reported to have said that, “In completing more homes, we are re-echoing and underscoring a resolve not only to bring solutions to the issue of housing deficit in the state but also to revitalize the economy, improve our total environment and increase the sense of wellbeing of the people.”

Contributing to the vox pop, a female activist and legal practitioner, Barrister Eyitope Success-Adekunle, who is the President of the Women for Change Initiatives, praised the governor for walking his talk in line with his transformational agenda tagged THEMES, commending him for charging forward with vital projects that are germane to the wellbeing of the people.

She therefore urged the people of the state to keep supporting the governor in his commitment to move the state forward, just as she also tasked the governor and his team of competent hands not to relent in their resolve to leave an everlasting legacy for the state, assuring that, people are appreciative of their performance.
