A’ Ibom gov. donates 3-bedroom bungalow to corps member’s father living in thatched house

Moved by the gesture of a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State on Friday, announced that he would donate a three-bedroom bungalow to the father the corps member who was residing in a thatched house in Cross River State.

Making the announcement via the state government’s official X handle (formerly Twitter) Eno explained that his decision was to express his empathy after viewing a video where the female corps member visited her father at the thatched house in the Ugep area of Cross River State.

A video that trended online showed the female corps member, dressed in full NYSC attire, walking towards her father in the thatched house. She then removed her NYSC uniform, dressed her father in it along with the cap, and embraced him while thanking him for supporting her through university.

However, Governor disclosed that he had chosen to provide a three-bedroom apartment for the father of the young woman, emphasising that he was not bothered that the location was in Cross River State, though he is as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State.

According to him: “I saw that house in the video; it was a thatch house. Her father prayed for her. So, I asked my people to find out the person, and thank God for technology, we found them, they are from Cross River, Ugep to be precise, so we sent our team to find out that she was the one.

“After talking with the father, we have decided to build a three-bedroom house for that father. I am saying this because in case you hear from people, why I am I taking Akwa Ibom money to Cross River, it is a moral lesson for us about what the girl did to her father.”
