A Pan-Lagos pro-democracy group, Movement for a Better Lagos, has given reasons why the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) would find it extremely difficult or rather practically impossible to win the gubernatorial election in the state in 2023.
The movement’s belief in the inability of the PDP to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), was voiced out by its Convener, Comrade Omolola Olukayode, in a chat with the media in Lagos, on Friday morning, where he asked rhetorically, “where would the PDP start to rubbish the good works of the sitting governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu?”
Olukayode, who was reacting to the a report credited to the National Chairman of the PDP, Sen. Iyorcha Ayu who was quoted as saying that his party would win Lagos and 25 other states across the nation in 2023, however agreed with Senator Ayu for exercising his fundamental human right as guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution.

According to him it is never against any law to day dream because day dreaming is part of the beauty of democracy where wishes to parties like the PDP appear are horses but impossible to ride, asserting that, where the progressives have taken Lagos to since 1999 has gone beyond the reach of the conservatives who wasted the country’s time for 16 years without something concrete to show for it.
While analysing reasons the PDP cannot move closer to the Alausa Government House, Olukayode wondered what gave Ayu such confidence to think that, as well exposed, highly intelligent and roundly sophisticated people of Lagos would surrender their mandate to a nonstarter, who would use the state as a trial and error experiment!
“Let us think of it, how many Local Governments (LGs), Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), members of the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senators are the PDP controlling in Lagos that would give it the leverage to send the APC packing in the state?”

The activist expressed the confidence that, “in Lagos State, APC will sweep the poll at all the levels from the presidential, governorship and legislative elections in 2023,” reminding that, “the state governor, Sanwo-Olu has performed well in office since2019, so well that he has been given a second term ticket to continue for another four years till 2027.”
Against this background, Olukayode told the PDP in a clear term that, “There are no vacancies in Aso Villa, Abuja and Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos Government House for any other political parties aside the APC,” advising the Lagos Chapter of the PDP to wake up from their sleep so that their dream would terminate and transform to reality.
He therefore urged the good people of the state not to allow any political day dreamer and democratic wishful thinkers to detract them from the good work Sanwo-Olu is doing, admonishing that, they should double their support for him to coast home well next year May before commencing his second term on May 29, 2023.
