As the general elections in 2023 draw near, with political parties now poised to field their candidates for the electorate to choose from, the case of Ebonyi State is still mired in uncertainty.

In Ebonyi State, as it stands, only the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is sure of which candidates would fly the banner of their Party in the state.

The All Progressive Congress (APC), the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) are still in confusion as party members are still seeking adjudication to who should flay the flags of their parties following the in parallel elections that characterised their Parties primaries in the state.

Our reporter learnt that, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had hectic weekend managing the traffic on the nomination portal as political parties scrambled to beat the deadline, with only the APGA metting the requirements in Ebonyi State.

Although the Commission was yet to release the list of the political parties that met the deadline as at the time of filing this report.

At this eleventh hour, Labour Party is combining effort to have structure in the state, while the APC and the PDP candidates remained at daggers-drawn in lawsuits over who had the scorecard to be in the INEC nomination list from the governorship position to the state’s House of Assembly.

The battle has been between Chief Elias Mbam and the Speaker state House of Assembly, RT. Hon. Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru, contesting governorship position in APC, and between Chief Ifeanyi Odii from the same Senatorial zone with the incumbent governor and Sen. Obinna Ogba in PDP.

It is also a contest between Arc. Edward Nkwegu and Fidelis Nwankwo for the Labour Party.

Each of them are still scouting to have loyal  deputy governorship candidates to pair with them.

What APC and PDP candidates are still doing in court is what the masses are yet to know.

According to the INEC deadline for the withdrawal and replacement for governorship, Senate and House of Assembly elections ended on July 17, 2022.

However, if the political wind goes clockwise or anti-clockwise, the anointed becomes annoyed or destiny later delayed then, APGA will definitely rule Ebonyi State in 2023.

The erstwhile Secretary to the state government, Prof. Benard Ifeanyichukwu Odoh, may become the governor of Ebonyi State.

Ebonyians are apprehensive to know where the political pendulum will swing in Ebonyi State.
