2023: Kwankwaso working for Tinubu; Atiku won’t step down for Obi – Deji Adeyanju

Human Rights activist and social analyst, Mr. Deji Adeyanju, has said that opposition parties in the country were not ready to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023.

Mr. Adeyanju contended that an alliance between Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) would be necessary in order to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 presidential election.

Mr. Adeyanju maintained that no politician wanted to be associated with defeat but claimed that AlhajiKwankwaso was working for APC candidate Bola Tinubu.

He reportedly made the submission while commenting on #LEADERSHIPTwitterSpaces over the weekend.

Mr. Adeyanju continued by saying that while people in Nigeria and Africa as a whole favor infrastructure, ideas don’t typically win elections.

He based his proposal on knowledge gained from observing more than 39 elections, both inside and outside of Nigeria.

According to the rights advocate, unless the opposition parties band together, they would all lose the 2023 presidential race.

However, he emphasised that Atiku would not resign for Mr. Obi and that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State might not support Atiku.

Mr. Adeyanju was quoted as saying, “They (PDP, LP and NNPP) have been meeting secretly and openly. They are completely unserious political parties heading for a defeat.

“Big ideas don’t win elections in Africa. What wins elections in this part of the world is tribe, ethnicity, religion, rigging, vote buying, stomach infrastructure.

“What the opposition are doing now will not help them. Wike may not work for Atiku if he is not sure he will win.

“No politicians want to be identified with failure. Peter Obi is good but it is not possible for Atiku to step down for him. So, they must unite. It is common sense.

Mr. Adeyanju also said that the results from certain northern states described as KKK might determine the eventual winner of the polls and the possible states each candidate would win are already known.

“We know the states where these candidates will win. When the results start coming from the KKK states, there will be throttling.

“Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso must form a force. They should put somebody forward. Kwankwaso is already working for Tinubu because he does not want Atiku to emerge,” Mr. Adeyanju claimed.
