2023: INEC snubs Abacha, shortlists opponents as Kano PDP guber candidate

Anthony Iwuoma

Muhammad Abacha, son of the late maximum ruler, Gen. Sani Abacha, may have lost his chance to fly the flag of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Kano State, for the 2023 general election if the list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is anything to go by.

The electoral umpire, which made a volte face from its earlier position has snubbed the younger Abacha and instead displayed his opponent,

Sadiq Muhammad Wali, on its list as the candidate of the PDP in the state.

However, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Shehu Risqua, refused to comment on the development but expectations are high that Abacha would be challenging the list.

Nevertheless,  Wali, holds a degree  from Bayero University Kano, alongside his running mate, Yusuf Dambatta.

Also on the list are candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, who is the current deputy governor of the state, and his running mate, Murtala Sule Garo, former Commissioner for Local Government in the state.

Candidates for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Yusuf Abba Kabir, and Aminu Abdussalam, governorship candidate and running mate, respectively are also on the list.
