(2023 elections) Leaked Oyedepo/Peter Obi audio: I warned against weaponising religion for political purposes – Sowore

Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the February 25 elections, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, has recalled how he decried the effect of weaponising religion for political purposes in Nigeria ahead of the 2023 elections.
Sowore gave the warning when he featured on ‘Apostolic Roundtable’, a Christian programme, in Lagos State, in the build-up to the February 25 Presidential election.
Sowore had warned that the candidate the Christian community had chosen over other Presidential candidates might not win the Presidential election as God could not be divided.

Sharing the video of the programme on his Twitter handle, the convener of #RevolutionNow, wrote, “Weaponising RELIGION for Political Purposes!”
According to Sowore, “I was invited to an ‘Apostolic Roundtable’ in Lagos before the election and I spoke decisively about the ‘Religious War’ being waged to present the Nigerian Christian community with an anointed candidate.”
In the video shared by the AAC presidential candidate on Sunday, he said that, “I am saying this to warn Christendom that the king you have chosen upon us may not be the one that God chose and you should temper your arrogance if you believe in God. Let God choose his own king over his people.
“Don’t go and meet in any Kaduna or Kano because God does not have a location when he wants to take his own decisions.

“Yes! Can the house hear me because Christian leaders have been choosing leaders for us in this country for long? They have chosen some of the worst characters for us. Muslim leaders have chosen kings for us in this country.
“They have chosen some of the worst characters for us to the point that the God that you all serve has decided to be humble, take a back seat, because he said to you ‘see what will happen’. ‘Shebi’ you want a king, you will get it and that is how we came about some of the kings we have had in Nigeria over the years. That’s the reason I came here today for the first time to preach to you; most of you don’t know I am a Christian.”
