2019 polls: Politicians not worth dying for – Edo REC warns voters

Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Emmanuel Alex Hart, has advised registered voters in the country to be weary of politicians, saying they are not trusted and worth dying for.

Hart gave the advice during interview with newsmen in Benin-City, on Tuesday.

According to him, the electorate, especially the youths, should avoid thuggery during elections but turn out to vote candidates of their choice.

“Do the right thing. We don’t have to allow any politician to push us. They are not trusted and not worth dying for.”

The Resident Electoral Commissioner who, however, gave update of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collection in the state said a total of 1,565,795 million cards have so far been collected by registered voters.

He added that a total of 634,085 PVCs  were yet to be collected.

The REC had, November, 2018 disclosed that a total of 473,476 PVCs have yet to be collected, out of the 1,992,856 million registered voters while 1,519,350million PVCs were collected in the state.

He also disclosed that a total of 2,199,870 million voters registered in the state out of which 1,159,482 million are male while 1,051,378 million are female.

He also explained that PVCs collection have increased in the state compared to the previous years.

Hart said Ikpoba Okha local government area has the highest number of register voters while Oredo Local Government Area recorded the highest number of PVCs collected.
