President of Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Binga, has applauded the medals won by taekwondo team at the 2019 All Africa Games in Morocco, assuring that the athletes would be honoured by the Federation.
Nigerian taekwondo team won six medals, comprising of 1 gold and 5 bronze medals at the games, placing the country on sixth position on taekwondo medals table behind hosts Morocco, Egypt, Cote d’Ivoire, Tunisia and Niger Republic.
Incidentally all the five countries were ranked higher than Nigeria prior to the Games and they came to Morocco with at least one World championship or Olympic medalist.

According to Binga who is the first and only Nigerian woman to have won the African title twice in Johannesburg and Abuja in 1999 and 2003 respectively, the medalists will be honoured at the prestigious end -of- year national taekwondo ceremony/award nite billed for later this year.
“We at the Federation are happy with the achievement of our athletes at the African Games and we’ll definitely honour them at our President Award nite to be held later in the year.”
Binga also admonished those that could not make it to the pondium in Morocco not to be discouraged but redouble their efforts in future championships.
“My appeal to those who failed to win medals at the Games is that they should not be discouraged but take it as a challenge to up their game in future because they still have bright future ahead.”
