20 Plateau students to bag foreign varsity scholarships

A foreign university, the ISM Adonai University, in Cotonou, Republic of Benin, has offered to award scholarships to 20 students from Plateau State to undergo various undergraduate degree programmes in the institution.

The university made this known in a letter addressed to Governor Simon Lalong, and signed by its Registrar, Muhammad Adamu Wakil.

It said the gesture extended to the state was in recognition of Governor Lalong’s outstanding contributions to the development of education in the state.

A Plateau State Government House statement issued, on Monday, and signed by Mark Longyen, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, said the award was also aimed at consolidating the ‘Rescue Administration’s’ Education Policy and to provide learning opportunities to indigenous Plateau State students.

According to Longyen, the letter reads in part: “The Governing Council of the ISM Adonai University, has agreed to offer a 50% tuition waiver scholarship to Plateau State students for an undergraduate course for twenty (20) meritorious candidates.

“The total sum of fees and other charges that are to be paid by each student is Nine Hundred and Twenty Seven Thousand Naira (927,000.00), which is against the actual charges of One Million, Eight Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (1,850,000.00) per student without the 50% waiver.”

The university had earlier awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree to the Governor for his ‘outstanding contributions to the development of education and national development.’ It also named a hostel in the institution after him.
