2 ex-convicts arrested in Ogun after robbery operation in Oyo

Two ex-convicts have got themselves into trouble again, having been caught after an interstate robbery operation.

The unrepentant ex-convicts, Wasiu Opeyemi and Noah Israel were nabbed by police operatives in Mowe, Ogun State on their way home after a robbery in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

Opeyemi and Israel, natives of Ijebu Ode, Ogun State and Benue State respectively were arrested on June 23 by men of the Ogun State Anti-kidnapping Unit who were on routine patrol in the Mowe area of the Lagos- Ibadan Expressway.

The suspects who rode a motorcycle were stopped for questioning by the police operatives who suspected their appearance.

They attempted to escape but were rounded up by the policemen.

The Ogun State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the arrest in a press statement stated that the suspects were “on a motorcycle whilst accosted by the team because of the suspicious manner they appeared and they were stopped for questioning.

“The two suspects made attempt to escape but were quickly surrounded by the operatives and taken to the nearest police station.

“On interrogation, they confessed to the police that they were coming from Ogbomoso in Oyo State where they had gone to carry out a robbery operation. They confessed further that all the items in their possession were proceeds of the operation.

They also stated that one of their victims was forced to transfer the sum of one hundred thousand naira into their account since nothing tangible was found with him.

“The suspects who claimed to have met at Oba Correctional Centre while serving different jail terms confessed to robbing their victims with cutlass and other dangerous weapons.
“Recovered from them are two laptops, eleven phones of different types, one Rolex wristwatch, cash sum of one hundred and twenty-two thousand naira and bags containing household items,” he stated.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered a thorough investigation of the suspects before transferring them to Oyo State where they will be prosecuted.
