120-man contingent to represent Niger at National Sports Festival – official

The Niger State Government says it has mobilised a 120-man contingent to represent the state at the ongoing North Central elimination series of the 2018 National Sports Festival.

Alhaji Baba Sheshi, Director of Sports at the sports ministry, disclosed this on Wednesday in Minna, while inaugurating the team.

The five-day festival holding Jos, Plateau State, commenced on Oct. 17.

Sheshi urged the athletes and officials to work hard and respect the rules of the game to enable them excel.

“We have no doubt that you will make the state proud. Remember you cannot achieve anything meaningful without following the rules of your various events,’’ he said.

He said that the athletes would participate in six team events that include football (men), handball (men), cricket (men), as well as hockey (men).

According to him, other games include volleyball (men and women), and basketball (men and women).

In his remarks, Mr. Abdulrahman Izom, the camp commandant, implored the officials and athletes to be conscious of the time of their various games to enable them settle down before kick-off.

“When you settle down and plan well before the commencement of your game, you will perform well,’’ he said. (NAN)
