Amaechi to Igbo in Rivers: Igbo blood runs in me; my mom, wife are Igbo, you’ve nothing to fear

A former Minister of Transportation, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, has said that the Igbo blood runs in him because his mother is Igbo, and that even his wife is Igbo too, The Punch reports.

The Punch claimed Amaechi said this while speaking at a stakeholders meeting between the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Mr. Tonye Cole, and the Igbo community in the state.

Amaechi, who is a former governor of Rivers State, said that the Igbo in the state have nothing to fear because he is one of them, and added that if Tonye Cole wins the forth-coming governorship election, he would protect Igbo businesses in the state.

He was quoted as saying, “Democracy is about giving people the right to choose their leaders. I am one of you. Igbo blood runs in me, my mom is Igbo, my wife is Igbo; you have nothing to fear.”

Amaechi, however, also apologised to the Igbo for their properties they lost in the state after the civil war, including houses, and promised them that in due course all the properties would be returned to them.

He said that those who have lost their properties to violence in the state should write their names and phone numbers and submit to them, and promised them that they would give them back those properties.
