Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has revealed the reason why
suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike are at loggerheads.
According to Amaechi, the bone of contention between the two which has led to political crisis rocking the state is the disagreement over the sharing of the state’s money.
While speaking in an interview on Friday, Amaechi said both Fubara and Wike are fighting over who controls the finances of the state which has affected governance in the state and resulted in imposition of emergency rule by President Tinubu.
“The fight between the current governor of Rivers State and the FCT minister is about sharing money. If not, what’s the quarrel? Nigerians don’t dislike corruption again. I’ve not seen anybody on the street querying what the problem is. Can both of them speak to the public and tell us what the problem is about? Amaechi said.
Condemning the imposition of emergency rule, Amaechi frowned at the move by the president saying that it has set a dangerous precedent for future presidents.
Amaechi noted that while other states are facing serious security challenges, President Tinubu looked the other way by not imposing emergency rule but was quick to do so in Rivers State that was not experiencing security issues like some states.
He also revealed that the emergency rule was a political power struggle for the control of Rivers between President Tinubu and Wike but Governor Fubara caught in the middle of the struggle due to his political fight with Wike leading to his suspension as the governor.
“The president wants a power grab. They want to frighten governors who may not support them in 2027,” he said.
