Air Force sets up Committee to probe plane crashes

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has constituted a committee to investigate incessant crashes involving its aircraft.

This comes amidst concerns raised by Nigerians following three plane crashes that happened within three months.

The crashes led to the loss of not less than 18 military officers.

The spokesman of NAF, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, stated that the committee constituted by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, comprises serving and retired officers.

Gabkwet explained that the committee members are to conduct a safety audit of all NAF operational and engineering units, adding that the CAS directed the committee to submit its report not later than 18th June, 2021.

According to him, the committee is to be chaired by the Deputy Theatre Commander, Operation HADIN KAI, Air Vice Marshal Abraham Adole.

”The Committee is to, among other terms of reference, analyze safety reports from operational and engineering units, conduct safety evaluation of NAF units and recommend measures to enhance the safety of operations in the units.

”The Committee is also to interact with unit operational and technical personnel for views, observations and contributions on safety measures,” the statement read.
