Agbekoya Peace Movement urges FG to put strategies in place to end herdsmen/ farmers feud

Comrade Olasunkanmi Raji, the National Coordinator, Agbekoya Peace Movement of Nigeria, on Tuesday urged the Federal Government put in place strategies to end herdsmen and farmers feud in the country.

Raji gave this advice in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the movement, Comrade Musbau Akinyemi, after its convention in Ibadan on April 27.

According to him, the advice is timely to safeguard the nation’s food security.

”The herdsmen invading farmlands with their animals is affecting farming in the areas where it is rampart.

”If farmers cannot farm there, will be no food for people to eat.

”Each part of the Federation has areas it has comparative advantage and should be encouraged to develop that area.”The Federal Government should encourage states where  farming include husbandry and rearing of herds to develop cattle ranches.

”This will ensure that the herds are concentrated in an area and constitute less nuisance to farmers and farmlands,” he said.

Raji said that the herdsmen should not be disturbing farmers and the villagers in the name of plying their trade.

He said that the Federal Government should ensure machinery were in place to ensure herdsmen were apprehended and punished whenever their herds graze on farmlands.

Raji also decried the high rate of kidnaping and ritual killings in the country, saying that communities should expose those engaging in such activities in their various communities.

He warned parents and guardians not to allow their children and wards to engage in cultism.

According to him, anybody arrested by the movement will be handed over to the security agencies.

Raji said that the nation’s security situation was such that all religious bodies should join hands with the government to fight insecurity.

He said that they should do this by preaching against kidnapping, ritual killings and cultism whenever their faithful gathered together for worship.

Mr Oladipo Kabiru, the Oyo State Coordinator, Agbekoya Peace Movement, said that the serious security issues affecting Oyo State were secret cult and feuds among road transport workers.

He said that the movement played active role to ensure peace during and after 2019 Presidential and Governorship elections in the State. (NAN)
