Barely 24 hours after the killing of five residents, gunmen suspected to be cultists again, invaded another Rivers Community and killed two persons.
It was gathered the gunmen on Monday killed two persons at Odiokwu junction in Ula-Ehuda, Igbu Akoh, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers after killing five persons early hours of Sunday in Edeoha Community, Upata.
The Public Relations Officer of Igbu-Akoh, Hector Chinem informed journalists on Monday, that on Sunday, natives observed the movement of some persons dressed in military rainwear, only for natives to wake up Monday morning to the gory spectacle of dead bodies riddled with bullets.
Chinem regretted that the killing happened barely 24 hours after five persons were killed in the Edeoha community.
He called on the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Mustapha to as a matter of urgency strengthen security in the area, lamenting that cult groups had invaded the communities.
Chinem also pleaded with youth in the local government area to lay down their arms and allow to peace reign.
Reports available to The Nigerian Xpress indicate that there is heightened tension in the council area as some natives have started fleeing.
The spokesperson for the State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko was yet to respond to the Monday killing at the time of filing this report but had earlier confirmed the Sunday killings in the Edeoha community.
