The management of Kano based Shield City FC has fully registered for this year’s Africa Youth Cup in Cape Verde and looking forward to featuring in the tournament.
This much was confirmed by Laura Sharpe who is the Mother of the academy.
The American in a chat with newsmen over the weekend said the academy is looking forward to the tournament which is billed for October.
In her words…”We are all looking forward to the amazing tournament at Cape Verde!”
Organisers of the event, Serahanasports on their part confirmed Shield City has made all the needed commitments to be part of the tournament which is Africa’s première international youth soccer tournament.
Serahanasports’s Godson Ekadi said Shield City is good to go as far as this year’s tournament is concerned.
Laura disclosed that Shield City is an outfit that was founded in 2021.
Giving more insight into how Shield City evolved, Sharpe stated…”It all started when a small group of friends came together to serve as volunteers for the Shield City Empowerment Initiative, a non-profit organization focused on providing tutoring and therapy for children with special needs in Kano. This gifted group of young men had a desire to serve their community, as well as a shared love of football. They started playing friendly matches and grew as a team in talent and unity. The opportunity arose for these young men to start competing in local tournaments and they walked away victorious! Shield City FC focuses on helping their team to develop their talents both on and off the field. The original group of Shield City FC has completed a basic computer course as a group. They have also all started small businesses. These young men also serve regularly as volunteers with the children at the Shield City.”
