Former Super Eagles first choice keeper and Atlanta 96 Olympics gold medalist, Dosu Joseph, has given a pat on the back to the Super Eagles for putting up a five star performance in the international friendly against Brazil early this month, but with a warning that it is time the team’s Franco German manager, Gernot Rohr stops experimenting.
Dosu while hailing Eagles and describing the 1-1 draw against star studded Brazil in Singapore like a victory said his only worry is that Rohr is calling up too many new legs at a time when the race to Cameroon for the AFCON 2021 tournament is about to start.
“In November the AFCON 2021 qualifiers will start, so for me, it’s time for Rohr to start building a solid team. He should stop inviting new players to the team. In the last two years or so, before and after the Nations Cup in Egypt, Rohr has invited well over 40 players. I think it’s time for him to stop the experiment of inviting new legs to the team. He should now stick to a consistent set of 23 players going into the 2021 AFCON qualifiers which is very much around the corner. The good thing is that the team currently parades several young and intelligent players…that should be a plus for any coach going into a major competition or qualifiers,” Dosu said.

Dosu, who made his debut for the senior national team in the November 1996 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso in Lagos, lauded the Super Sagles for their impressive display in the October 13 international friendly against Brazil at the Singapore national stadium where the three-time African champions were forced to a 1-1 draw by the South Americans.
The one-time Julius Berger of Lagos safe hands was also full of praise for the two goalkeepers that manned the post against Brazil in the encounter, insisting that the duo of Francis Uzoho and Maduka Okoye did a good job.
“Uzoho pulled off some wonderful saves before he got injured and Maduka Okoye who came in for him displayed some high level of composure in spite of the fact that he was only making his debut for the country in such a high profile international friendly.”
Nigeria host Benin Republic on November 14th in the opening day of the 2021 AFCON qualifying campaign, before flying to Lesotho for their second match on the 19th of same month.
It would be noted that the Eagles finished with a bronze at the Egypt 2019 AFCON that was won by Algeria.
