With less than three months to the 2019 African Cup of Nations, AFCON, finals to be hosted by Egypt, ex-junior international, Monday Odiaka, has advocated early preparation for the Super Eagles to enable them put up a good performance in the greatest football tournament in the continent.
Odiaka expressed satisfaction with the way Eagles landed in Egypt with a game to spare. He said the NFF should ensure the team plays more high profile friendlies before hitting Egypt.
“I’m happy the way we qualified and the performance of the team against Seychelles and Egypt last month in Asaba was heartwarming. I’m confident the Eagles will do well in Egypt if they start preparations early for the tournament proper,” Odiaka said.
Odiaka a member of the Moscow ‘85 Flying Eagles, said he was, however, praying that the Super Eagles players remain in good shape before the tournament, as well as avoid injury in their various clubs.

“So many factors come into play before a major tournament. Let’s pray that our players would hit form before the tournament. We should also be praying against injury. These are factors that can make or mar a team,” Odiaka noted.
He stressed that the Nations Cup in Egypt would be a tough one, as virtually all the 24 countries are coming there with the title in mind and not just to feature.
“There are no more minnows in African football. Even the debutants in Egypt are coming there, believing they can win it,” Odiaka said.
