Absence of counsel stalls trial of IGP’s case against Hon. Onamade over alleged offensive publication

A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, presided by Honourable Justice F.O. Faji, has adjourned continuation of trial of Honourable Oluwatosin Onamade in a case filed against him by the Inspector General of Police.
Onamade was dragged before the court by the Inspector General of Police for pushing offensive publications online against a former chairman of Ijede LCDA, Hon. Fatiu Salisu over the murder of one Mr. Tony Ifeanyi Godfrey, which Onamade pleaded not guilty .
At the last hearing, Onamade had requested for an adjournment following his counsel’s inability to appear at the court proceeding owing to health issues.
However, the prosecuting counsel, Barrister Victor Okoye, opposed the request, citing previous delays due to the defendant’s absences in court.

The judge ruled out the objection of the prosecuting counsel on the ground that the defendant counsel had written a letter to the court intimating if of his ill health. It therefore adjourned the matter to July 11, 2022 for continuation of trial.
