Abba Kyari: Rep commends NDLEA for successful sting operation

Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Narcotic Drugs, Dr. Francis Ottah Agbo, has commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and its chairman, Brig-Gen.Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd) for successfully carrying out the sting operation which burst a drug syndicate allegedly aided by DCP Abba Kyari.

The Lawmaker said the success of the operation and arrest of key suspects, including Abba Kyari, confirms the renewed vigour and clinical efficiency the NDLEA under Marwa, has put in place to rid the nation of the menace of narcotic drug addiction and trafficking!

He said the latest operation is a clear indication that Nigeria has no hiding place for drug trafficking and drug related crimes.

The Feedback Lawmaker also said the sting operation and arrest of Kyari and other suspects have sent a strong warning to drug cartels the world over, that Nigeria is serious about fighting the drug war!

“When Marwa assumed office, I sounded the bell for all to hear that there was a new sheriff in town who appreciates the depth of the drug problem and was poised to achieve his mandate without compromise” he said.

Dr. Ottah Agbo urged the NDLEA to ensure it sustains the tempo until drug barons and addicts who were thought to be untouchable are driven out of Nigeria.

He called on president Muhammadu Buhari to reward Marwa with a prestigious national honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) for repositioning the NDLEA, as well as, bringing honour to the country.

The Lawmaker said his committee will continue to cooperate with the NDLEA by strengthening the laws establishing the agency. He said the National Assembly through his committee, has commenced the amendment of the NDLEA Act to enable the agency do more as well as bark and bite harder!

While stressing that there has been improvement in the funding, staffing and equipping of the agency in the 9th National Assembly, Dr. Ottah Agbo noted that these improvements are like a drop in the ocean and called on President Buhari to give more support to the agency.
