Seven people have been reportedly killed following a renewed clash between two local communities over a boundary in Ebonyi State, the police said, on Wednesday.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Awosola Awotinde, said properties worth millions of Naira were also destroyed when members of the Ngbo and Agila communities clashed, on Tuesday.
Ngbo community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State shares a land border with Agila, which is located in the North Central part of the country.
The two local communities had been enmeshed in the inter-communal clash for decades, causing the National Boundary Commission (NBC) to wade in.
However, hostilities resumed, on Tuesday, when members of the Agila community hit the southeastern town of Ngbo, shooting everyone at sight.
A top council official, identified as Clement Odah says, “We believe that the demarcation of the disputed land by the National Boundary Commission will bring lasting peace to the area.
The police said they have launched a manhunt for perpetrators of the killings.
