5 men docked over alleged theft of N20m aluminum

Five men were on Thursday brought before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State over alleged theft of aluminum sheets worth N20 million.

The accused – Ogungbemi Seun, 24; Sunday David, 24; Frank Obi, 25; Sunday Joseph, 34 and Akande Temitope, 34,– whose addresses were not provided, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

They, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the accused committed the offences on November 9 at about 1.00a.m at Excampo Company, Ilogbo, Ota.

Mustapha alleged that the accused broke into Excampo and stole the  aluminum sheets.

“The accused were caught in the act by the company’s security guards, who handled them over to the police,’’ he said.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 413(2) and 516 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mathew Akinyemi, granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties each in like sum.

Akinyemi said that the sureties should reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should show evidence of tax payments to Ogun Government.

The case was adjourned until Jan. 30 for mention. (NAN)
