2023: Peter Obi unveils Datti Baba-Ahmed as running mate

Peter Obi, Labour Party’s presidential candidate, on Friday announced his running mate in the 2023 presidential election.

He is Sen. Datti Baba-Ahmed, the 46-year-old founder of two universities, Baze University, Abuja and Baba-Ahmed University in Kano.

The Labour Party presidential flag bearer said Baba-Ahmed was eminently qualified to bring his private sector and academic achievements to bear on freeing the country from the stranglehold of primitive politics of ethnicity.

On his party, Baba-Ahmed has given reason he accepted to be Obi’s running mate.

Speaking when he was formally unveiled, the astute technocrat said he accepted to be Obi’s running mate because he “believes in Mr Obi’s capacity to make Nigeria live up to its billing”.

Declaring his trust in Obi not to mismanage Nigeria’s resources, Baba-Ahmed cited Obi’s tenure as Governor of that the outing of the Labour Party Anambra State as evidence.

The Labour Party had submitted the name of former presidential aide, Dr. Doyin Okupe as Obi’s running mate on a place holder basis in order to beat the deadline given by the independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Now the party officially has its vice presidential candidate, Bsba-Ahmed’s name would be forwarded to the electoral umpire to replace Okupe.
