Dr Olajide Adediran popularly known as Jandor has clinched the governorship ticket of the People Democratic Party, PDP, for Lagos State.
Jandor emerged the winner with 679 votes. votes to defeat Vaughan David Kolawole popularly known as Dakova who had 20 votes out of the 709 accredited delegates at the party primary conducted at the Haven Centre Ikeja. Ten votes were voided.
Before the commencement of the primary, four of the contestants, Adedeji Doherty, Shamsideen Dosunmu, Jimi Kamal, and Rhodes Gbadebo, had withdrawn from the race, leaving the race for the remaining two contestants, Olajide Adediran and David Kolawole.
Jandor had urged the delegates to vote for him. He commended other aspirants for their withdrawal from the race
” I have always been saying that all of us are qualified to be the governor of Lagos State. I want to acknowledge the level of the sacrifice of other aspirants in Lagos and for keeping the hope of PDP alive before my arrival in the party.
Our aspirations is one which is to rescue the state of Lagos. That is why we have decided to speak with one voice to put the party forward.
I want to beg you, i.need this vote for the entire Lagosians. If you give me the ticket today, it will be a ticket for the sole of Lagos,” he begged.
In his plea to the delegates, Dakova described himself as the ” David of our time” who had come to rescue the party in the state
” My passion is to take over Lagos for the opposition., to take our children from the streets. We will provide you with a job. Our children will not follow MC Oluomo again. I will slay that Goliath for you. I am not looking for your money, I want to be your hero, ” he pleaded.
In his acceptance speech after the announcement of his victory by the chairman of the PDP electoral committee for Lagos State, Emmanuel Ogidi, Jandor thanked the delegates for picking him to represent the party in the 2023 governorship election.
He thanked the leader of PDP Lagos , Chief Olabode George for his support.
“I am going to use this ticket to unite PDP so we can win Lagos for PDP. I will carry this PDP flag with pride. This is a ticket to make Lagos work for us. I know I have a herculean task of winning Lagos for PDP,” he said.
Dakova urged the winner to remain focused and promised to work with him to win the governorship election in 2023.
