2023: Female politicians converge in Kaduna

As strategies are marshalled in different quarters preparatory for elective offices in 2023, female politicians under the aegis of Women In Politics (WIP) Network has converged in Kaduna State, to seal off plans for the national polls.

The aim of the organization was to produce the next governor of the state according to the project officer, Hanatu Ahuwan.

WIP project in Kaduna is being championed by Legal Awareness for Nigerian Women (LANW) with support from the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and UK Aid.

Ahuwan explained that the objective of the meeting was to build skills of participants on leadership skills required for women  participation particularly young aspiring ones in politics.

Ahuwan said the group brought seasoned female politicians to the gathering to share experiences, impact and mentor young aspiring female politicians.

“The essence is to increase women participation in politics. We have more of old women, but we need young ones to learn the rope and take over from them. We want to review our strategy to understand the bottlenecks, the success and what we can do better and see what prospects we have ahead of the 2023 election.

Investigation revealed that women politicians from the state have started grouping in different camps ahead of 2023 barely four months after the All Progressive Congress (APC) begins its second term in office. A prominent female politician who pleaded for anonymity confided that plans started early like this, usually gets good results that why we are beginning this early, she said.
