The Human Rights and Conflict Resolution Center, a non-governmental organisation, says its members across the federation have been fully trained to monitor and observe the upcoming general elections.
The Acting Director of the centre, Mr George Etamesor, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abakaliki.
Etamesor said that the 29 branches of the centre nationwide had been trained and equipped with the necessary skills preparatory to the polls.
He said, “Our aim is to get them prepared for a peaceful election in Ebonyi and ensure that all the local government areas are represented.”
He said that the centre was poised to observe and monitor the entire electoral process, including the campaigns through the presidential, governorship as well as national and state assemblies elections.
Etamesor said that the centre was collaborating with its partners to ensure the peaceful conduct of the polls in all parts of the country.
According to him, members of the centre had been trained on the skills and techniques of peace building and early warning signs of conflicts to forestall any threats of violence during the exercise.

He said that the centre would partner with the Development Integrity Goal Foundation on strategic engagement with the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies, civil society organisations (CSOs) and other relevant stakeholders for the election.
Etamesor further said that the centre had plans to hold town hall meetings in the three senatorial districts of the state to sensitise the electorate on the need for a peaceful election.
He said, “There will be training on women advocacy for peace and the dangers of electoral violence.
“The aim is to get youth leaders and women leaders at the local government levels to assist in keeping the peace.
“The women are expected to help us talk to their husbands, control their children and families throughout the period of the polls.
He said that at the centre would organise a post-election meeting to share ideas and remind the members about what they were taught during the training.
“The meeting will offer an avenue to focus discussions on the entire electoral process and sharing of ideas with CSOs and other stakeholders,” Etamesor said. (NAN)
