2019 election: DIG reads riot act on politicians, IPOB members

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the South East zone for election monitoring, Michael Ogbuzi, has cautions both politicians and members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the zone to desist from any act capable of undermining the electoral process

DIG Ogbuzi gave the warning, in Owerri, when he paid visit to the Imo State Police Command Headquarters, Owerri, said that Imo State remains one of the flash spot and attached great importance to the election.

He reminded those politicians that would go out of their ways to either import tugs, engage fake soldiers or even engage in snatching of ballot boxes during the election would not go unpunished.

He sounded it lauder that the Nigeria police in collaboration with other sister security agencies in the state will not allow such election irregularities to happen under their watch, insisting that anybody found indulging in such act would be visited with the full weight of law of the land.

He recalled the arrest and handing over of some fake soldiers who were escorting one of the politicians in the state by the military, while condemning the recent murder of a political party chairman in the state.

To members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, the DIG warned them not to continue to take laws into their hands which have led to the arrest of some of their members.

He insisted that security personnel must go after any member of IPOB who want to undermine the laws of the land by engaging in any act to subvert the election.

He assure both the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of every support and security backup to ensure a violence free election in the land.

DIG Ogbuzi advise INEC to go ahead and do what is right and whatever they could to do to ensure peaceful conduct of the election assuring that every security backup required for the election to go successfully would be accorded to them.

He also enjoined the electorates to be sure of security of their lives while going out to cast their votes as citizens of the country.

The DIG used the forum to equally advise their officers and men on uniform deployed for the election to be mindful of their duties to avoid been caught with the law of the land, reminded them that any of them that fall pry in the hands of the politicians would not go unpunished.
