President General of Nigerian Football Supporters Club, Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, has given a pass mark to Nigerian sports. However, he advised that more efforts should be made to build on the achievements recorded last year to get a better performance this year.
Reviewing Nigerian sports in 2018, he singled out football, boxing and basketball, as sports that got good results for Nigeria, noting that with good planning Nigerian athletes could rule the world in 2019 and beyond.
“I want to say that Nigerian sports performed well in 2018, especially basketball and boxing. It’ s true that our football also did well with the Super Eagles qualifying for this year’s AFCON finals with a game to spare and the Super Falcons winning the AWCON a record nine times but efforts must be made to not only sustain those successes but also surpass them this year,” he stressed.
According to Ladipo, who also doubles as President of Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, members of the Supporters Club deserve praises for surmounting all odds last year to support the national teams, promising that the club will perform the role better this year.

“Kudos must go to the Supporters Club for successfully supporting the nationals teams in both their home and away matches, which contributed to the various victories we’re celebrating today and this year, they are more determined to perform better.”
On what to expect from Nigerian boxing this year, he explained that more promoters had indicated interest to promote fights in the country; saying that his plans is to see more Nigerians ranked by the various World boxing bodies.
“Nigerian boxing had it good last year with some World and African title fights organised in the country. We at the NBB of C intends to sustain that achievement this year and already many promoters both within and outside the country have indicated interest to promote fights in the country, which I believe is good for Nigerian boxers,” he concluded.
