Over 200 illegal structures within the premises of Community Secondary School, Makurdi, are to be demolished on the orders of the Benue state government.
Investigation by eyewitness reveals that owners of the illegal structures have been duly notified of the demolition to be carried out by the Urban Development Board.
General manager of the board, Saint Gbilekaa Abrahams, told our correspondent that the persons concerned do not have tittle documents for the land.

He said the owners of the school have valid documents for the land occupied by the institution, stressing that one month notice was given to the owners of the illegal structures.
He said Governor Samuel Ortom had also notified owners of the illegal structures at a meeting that a demolition order had been given consequent on the complaints by the owners of the school that the institution’s land had been taken over by illegal developers thereby preventing expansion of facilities.
Abrahams emphasized that the owners of the structures were given one month notice on March 17 and that on April 18, demolition would be expected to commence.
The general manager however said he would again consult with the governor to seek for another date for the demolition because of the problem of Coronavirus and noted that the lime lag would enable owners of the structures to make alternative arrangements.
Eyewitness gathered that in line with its humane disposition, the state government may decide to follow due process in allocating plots to those affected at a new layout in Makurdi.
Our correspondent learnt that no land may be allocated freely to the affected persons as was speculated in certain quarters because they illegally built the structures.
