Ladoja endorses emergency rule in Rivers, says it’s not a threat to democracy

Rasidi Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, has thrown his weight behind the state of emergency imposed on Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu.

According to him, the development does not threaten democracy contrary to widely held views of critics.

The Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland posited that the two gladiators in the crisis, Siminialayi Fubara, the suspended governor, and Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, should collaborate during the duration of the emergency rule and resolve their disagreement for the sake of peace.

He expressed his views in a chat with newsmen at his Bodija Ibadan residence on Sunday after the Eld-el-Fitri prayers, insisting that President has his own reason for declaring the six-month emergency rule.

“The state of emergency in Rivers State is not a threat to democracy at all. The President has his reason for doing it. It is not a threat to democracy. It is a warning to other governors to sit tight,” Ladoja said.

“Now, there is relative peace in Rivers State.

“I believe everything will be stabilised in the next six months.

“It is now time for Wike and Fubara to sit down and talk and say what are we fighting for? They should sit down and talk.

“They should use this period of emergency to settle their differences in the interest of the state. They should say, what are we fighting for? Why are we fighting?”
