A woman in Ilorin, Kwara State who is barely two weeks in marriage has gone to court asking for a divorce.
The woman, Wuraola Surajudeen, petitioned an Ilorin Area Court to dissolve the two weeks old union with the husband, Surajudeen Iya-Onitasi.
Giving reasons for her divorce request Wuraola said there had been lack of love and affection even in the short marriage stressing that this was the main reason for her decision.
She informed the court that the union was her second marriage pointing out that she was previously married before her union with Iya-Onitasi.
Her words; ”I divorced my former husband due to pressure from my mother. My former husband became a religious fanatic after our marriage and my parents didn’t like that.
“I was thereafter introduced to my present husband and we got along smoothly, but immediately after the marriage, I developed hatred for him,”she said.
The husband in his response to the petition told the court that his wife left the house without his consent and her simple reason was that she was tired of the marriage.
Iya-Onitasi said he tried on different occasions to convince and protect their marriage but the wife refused to yield and he was left with no other choice than to let her be.
The court Presiding Judge, Hammed Ajumonbi meanwhile ordered the wife who is the petitioner to refund the dowry Iya-Onitasi paid for the marriage.
