Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday commended the Bankers Committee on the refurbished National Theatre now Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts, promising the theatre would be ready for use in next four months.
Sanwo-Olu expressed satisfaction at the level of work at the theatre when he led government officials on an inspection tour of the centre. He stated that the newly transformed theatre can be compared to the world international centre and commended the Bankers committee as well as creative sector for their collaboration with the Lagos State Government since the reconstruction started five years ago to transform the centre and bring it back to its lost glory to meet international standard.
The governor said when completed, the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts would be a place where the international community can converge for conferences, host world class performances among other activities.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Idris Aregbe, also described the refurbished centre as national treasure adding that when completes would compete favourably with international community as a tourist attraction as well as promote the entertainment industry and take a lot of youths off the street while generating employments for Nigerians.
The theatre now accommodates an arts and cultural gallery, banquet hall, conference centre and cinema rooms, parking facilities, among others.
