10th Senate President: S’East senators blow hot, caution Tinubu

A stunning turn of events occurred, on Sunday, in Abuja, when the South East Senate caucus warned Bola Tinubu, the incoming president, and the APC national leadership about the zoning of the Senate President position.
They discussed the alleged South South zoning of the 10th Senate Presidency.
They expressed their position in a statement that was released following a lengthy discussion at the Maitama home of Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah, YPP, who represents the Anambra South Senatorial District.
Since the South East was denied the president by the two major political parties, they said, the zone should be permitted to produce the 10th NASS Senate President. They disputed the South South’s zoning of the Senate President.

Part of the Communique read, “We have observed with dismay the antics of persons with vested selfish interests who have planted themselves around the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and have vowed to shut out the South East from the Senate Presidency of the 10th Senate.”

The caucus reiterated that it will do right to the people of the South-East, especially given that the region has been gifted with ranking Senators-elect, including members of the APC, and expressed rage at the antics of individuals close to the President-elect.

The lawmakers argued that the ruling party should keep in mind its own credo, which is the idea of natural justice and equity, because ranking Senators from the South-East to the 10th Senate have the capacity, competence, and followership to lead.

“That the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu should extend the same democratic opportunity he received from the outgoing administration which gave all aspirants equal opportunity to exercise their fundamental and constitutional rights during the APC Presidential Primaries.

“That there would be grave implications of zoning and endorsing a candidate from the South-South without any regard for the South-East as it could snowball into restiveness,” the caucus stated.
The trio of Nigeria (Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba) and the geopolitical zones should continue to support the nation’s growth, they pleaded with the President-elect.
