“Today in the company of my wife, I joined other senators elect to attend the presentation ceremony of the certificates of return to all senators elect. I congratulate all my colleagues and their families.
“I thank my family, my constituents particularly the chiefs, elders, women and youths, the entire members of the Senatorial Campaign Council led by the indefatigable Elder, Hon. Fynman Wilson who despite his age led the campaigns for my sake.
“I thank all traditional rulers, royal majesties, highnesses, women leaders, community leaders, youth leaders, students, all NGOs and the entire people of Bayelsa West Senatorial district for their overwhelming support.

That I won in all communities and in all wards is historic. I value the support and cannot thank my people enough. This is the sixth consecutive time I am receiving a certificate of return; twice in the House of Representatives, twice as Governor and the second time now as Senator. I owe my people a lifetime of service and gratitude.
“This opportunity to spend a full tenure in the Senate is to consolidate on most of the achievements and the foundations already laid. The next four years will see a renewed work on constitutional amendment and the pursuit of devolution of powers and restructuring. I will work with the Federal Government to ensure that the restructuring of Nigeria comes to the fore.
“I will work for environmental justice for our people, for their inclusion in all aspects of our nation’s life and for the Federal Government to support the development of Bayelsa state, Niger Delta and the Ijaw nation at large.
“Key development should not be left to the state governments and Bayelsa state in particular to handle. The same goes for the oppressed and deprived Ijaw people, for whom every opportunity I have, will be utilized to ensure that they benefit from Federal key projects either directly from the Federation or from development agencies.
“I will continue to work on deepening the electoral reforms. I commend my colleagues in the Electoral Affairs Committee for the work we have already done which led to the introduction of the BVAS and the requirement of electronic transmission of results, key achievements of our committee which has led to the unprecedented interest and participation of citizens in our elections thereby returning power to the people.

“In this full tenure my constituents will have more benefits of empowerment and constituency support programs like business development and empowerment programs, educational and health grants and support programs, scholarships and community development interventions, which we have already started.
“In all, I look forward to a very exciting tenth Senate and hope to work with a lot of friends, colleagues, majority of whom I have seen today, having been elected. I saw colleagues from my days in the house of representatives, colleagues in the ninth Senate, colleague former governors and many others and I hope to leverage on all of these contacts and network for the good of Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Bayelsa state, Niger Delta and Nigeria at large.”
