We’re not interested in naming, shaming terrorism sponsors – FG

Anthony Iwuoma
The Federal Government has said it is more interested in ensuring that those found culpable for acts of terrorism are brought to book rather than naming and shaming their sponsors.

According to presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, who spoke in an interview on Channels Television on Monday: “Naming and shaming will not be the motive. Naming and shaming won’t be the motive. Rather, bringing malefactors to justice would be it.

“Nigeria is not interested in naming and shaming anybody. Rather, it wants to bring them to justice.

“You see that the UAE had released some names and the AGF has responded saying that in due course, all these people will have their days in court. Rest assured that justice will have its way.”

Adesina added that the arrest of six Nigerians in Dubai, the United Arab Emirate, in connection with their alleged role in sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria is being investigated.

“Investigations are going on at different levels. It could be at the level of EFCC; it could be at the level of the National Intelligence Agency.

“Different security agencies would be working on it so that when those people eventually appear in court, there will be what the lawyers call a prima facie case against them,” he said.

There have been allegations and suspicion that many prominent Nigerians, even in government are complicit in sponsoring terrorist activities in Nigeria.
Following the arrest of the six suspects in Dubai, hopes were raised that the government would seize the moment to name and shame the alleged sponsors, as such would greatly help in tackling terrorism in the country.
