A security guard, Joseph Adoi, at the Benue University has allegedly impregnated an 11-year-old girl (names withheld) who was brought from the village to stay with him and his wife at the age of three.
According to the rights group, the man who lives with the girl started molesting her at age three.
The girl said she was raped twice.
According to her, he started by touching her private part and later forced his way and raping her.
She subsequently began noticing changes in her body- from stomach upset, dizziness and collapsing at some point.
The uncle’s wife noticed who noticed it called her friends to help her find out. She was later sent back to the village.
The baby’s father would discover upon hospital test that her daughter is pregnant.
The guard admitted to sleeping with the girl but later recanted and got the services of a lawyer who wrote to the family claiming he is being defamed.
The girl said she refused to tell her sister who is responsible for the pregnancy when they told her that they would abort the baby.
The rights group expressed displeasure in the way the police are handling the case. They said the police, rather arrest the man; they are asking him to produce the culprit.
